HELPFUL ANSWERS

Before you sell your cable.

Practical answers about cable grades, quotes, pickup and payment.

Does sending the form commit me to a sale?

No. It starts an assessment. The material, final grade, payable weight, rate, total and any collection charges must be agreed separately. A requested date is not a confirmed booking.

Why do I need to confirm ownership?

You must own the material or have authority to arrange its sale. A checkbox is a preliminary enquiry declaration. Photo ID checks and any required company sale authority are handled before purchase, separately from the quote form.

How do I take useful photos for a quote?

Show the whole load, representative material and existing cable ends or attachments in good light. Include packaging or access for pickup requests. Do not upload ID or bank details. Read the photo guide.

Do you buy air-conditioning radiators and coils?

Yes. We buy scrap copper/aluminium AC radiator coils, including condenser and evaporator coils. Send photos and tell us about steel frames, brackets or other attached material. Confirm acceptance and preparation requirements for complete AC units before delivery.

Do you buy copper pipe and copper fittings?

Yes. We buy copper pipe, tube, elbows and couplings. Keep clean copper separate from soldered, painted or mixed material where practical, and tell us about brass, steel or other attachments so we can assess the correct grade.

Can I mix copper pipe, Bright & Shiny wire and AC coils together?

These materials are assessed separately. Keeping bare copper wire, copper plumbing scrap, insulated cable and copper/aluminium AC coils in separate piles helps us identify the material and discuss a clearer quote. If the load is already mixed, show the full mix in your photos.

Do you buy aluminium alloy wheels and rims?

Yes. We buy scrap aluminium alloy wheels and rims. Send photos, the number of wheels or approximate weight, and tell us whether tyres are fitted. Keep aluminium rims separate from steel wheels.

Can I sell alloy wheels with tyres still attached?

Tyre-free rims are preferred. If tyres are still fitted, ask us to confirm acceptance and any removal or disposal charges before bringing them in. Do not assume tyres are included in the scrap metal payment.

What is Bright & Shiny copper wire?

Bright & Shiny refers to clean, bare, uncoated copper wire without insulation. Tinned, enamelled, soldered, burnt or heavily oxidised material should be kept separate for assessment. The final grade is confirmed after inspection.

Do you buy both insulated and stripped copper wire?

Yes. We buy copper cable with insulation still on, as well as clean stripped copper wire. They are graded separately because insulated cable includes covering and may contain other materials. You do not need to strip cable before asking for a quote.

What types of scrap cable can I enquire about?

We welcome enquiries for copper building cable, TPS, twin-and-earth, single-core cable, industrial power cable, mixed electrical wiring, automotive looms and data cable. Send photos if you are unsure what you have. Acceptance and pricing depend on the actual material.

Do I need to strip the insulation off my cable?

No. You can request a quote for insulated copper cable as it is. Before spending time stripping it, ask about the insulated value and whether separating your material would be worthwhile.

How is the price of scrap copper cable calculated?

Material type, recoverable metal content, contamination, quantity and collection requirements all affect the offer. Market conditions also change. The final price is confirmed after the material is assessed, graded and weighed.

Why don’t you publish a fixed cable price per kilogram?

Two cables can look similar but contain different amounts of copper and insulation. A quote for your actual load is more useful than a single rate that may not apply. Send photos, your suburb and an estimated weight.

Is a photo quote the final price?

Photos help us understand the load, but hidden contamination or a different material mix can change the assessment. Final value is agreed after inspection, grading and weighing, before the sale proceeds.

Do you offer free scrap cable pickup in Sydney?

Free collection may be available for a suitable load, depending on copper content, quantity, distance and access. There is no automatic free-pickup guarantee for every load. We confirm availability and any charges before collection is booked.

Is there a minimum quantity for collection?

Collection is assessed individually. A smaller load nearby and a larger load further away have different logistics. Send an approximate weight or photos and your suburb so we can confirm the practical options.

Do you collect outside Sydney or across regional NSW?

Sydney is our main focus. Bulk-load enquiries from Wollongong, the Central Coast, Newcastle and other NSW locations can be assessed individually. Please confirm arrangements with us before preparing transport or expecting a collection.

Can I deliver my cable myself?

Please contact us first. Material acceptance, the delivery location and a suitable time must be confirmed before you travel. The website does not currently advertise a public walk-in receiving address.

What if I don’t know the weight or cable grade?

Choose “Not sure” on the form. Send a wide photo of the full load, a close-up showing cut cable ends and, if possible, a familiar object for scale. Let us know whether the load is in bags, bins, drums or loose.

Can electricians arrange ongoing collections or site bins?

Yes, you can enquire about regular cable offcuts and project-based collections. Tell us your expected volume, location, storage space and preferred frequency. Bin availability, suitability and collection terms need to be agreed in advance.

Do you buy bare copper wire or copper pipe?

You can enquire about bright copper wire and copper pipe alongside insulated cable. Separate bare copper from insulated cable, brass, aluminium and general waste so each material can be assessed appropriately.

What about aluminium cable, armoured cable or data cable?

Identify these separately when possible. Aluminium conductors, steel armour, shielding and low-copper cable need a different assessment from standard copper electrical cable. Send clear photos and confirm acceptance before mixing them into a load.

Should I remove plugs, steel and other attachments?

Where practical and safe, separate obvious non-cable items and keep different materials apart. Do not undertake hazardous dismantling. Ask us about your specific load before spending time on preparation.

How should I prepare for a pickup?

Keep the agreed material together and accessible. Tell us about stairs, restricted entry, loading docks, loose cable and whether loading equipment is available. Confirm the pickup details before moving heavy material.

How will I be paid?

Payment is by bank transfer after the material and final value have been agreed. Confirm timing and bank details with us before the transaction. Please do not assume cash payment is available.

Do I need identification to sell scrap cable?

Please have photo ID and bank account details available. We will confirm what seller information and transaction records are needed before the sale.

Can I sell cable still connected to an installation?

Cable must be safely disconnected and available for recycling. Do not cut or handle live electrical wiring. Use a qualified electrician where electrical disconnection is required.

Do you accept cable mixed with general rubbish?

Please keep cable separate from general waste, liquids and hazardous items. Contamination can affect acceptance, handling and value. Show the full load in your photos and disclose anything mixed in.

How do I request a quote?

Use the form to select a material type, approximate weight and suburb, then add your contact details. You can also email info@copperexrecycling.com.au. The form saves your enquiry and optional photos for Copperex to review, and gives you a reference after successful submission.
